The Chicken, Turkey and Egg Market
07/28/2025
Chicken
Chicken markets have been showing mixed signals with weakness in breast meat and dark meat cuts but strength in tenders and wings. Breast meat has been a declining market, especially for jumbo and medium sized meat. Demand has been down, though supply has tightened slightly due to the Fourth of July holiday. Tenders have been tight in supply with high demand all year, as sellers have been sold out and unable to meet buyer needs. Boneless, skinless thigh and leg meat supply is increasing as demand diminishes along with asking price. Wings are currently the strongest segment of the chicken market. Supply has been tight, demand is increasing, and prices are climbing. Leg quarters, bone-in thighs, and drumsticks remain steady with moderate demand. Overall, the chicken market is showing reduced demand on breast meat and dark meat. Tenders and wings are seeing higher demand and tight supply.
Turkey
Turkey markets remain strong, driven by tight supply and high demand. Availability is limited across all product lines. Whole bird supply is limited to sold out, with premium pricing for both current and fall deliveries. Market quotes are increasing, and spot offerings are limited. Breasts are limited in availability with rising prices. Sellers are holding firm, and supply is not meeting demand. Tenders are in high demand with low supply. Trading is occurring at premium levels and sellers can hold firm. Thigh meat is extremely tight, and demand has remained strong. This item is difficult to source, and pricing is at premium levels if there is product available. Breast trim, scapula, and wing meat are also in tight supply leading to higher asking prices. MST is showing limited availability as sellers are only able to fill contracted orders. Turkey markets are experiencing supply pressure across all product segments. If product is available, premium pricing will be quoted.
Eggs
The egg market is mixed but stable, with retail strength supporting premium products, while processor segments remain weak. Supply levels are increasing due to slower seasonal demand, but retail-ready packs are firming. Retail demand is improving as shelf prices are beginning to drop. Breaking stock egg activity is inconsistent, with trades occurring below and slightly above asking prices. Liquid whole eggs and egg whites are sluggish, with offers asked below market quotes. The egg market is stabilizing, with premium retail segments showing the most strength. Processing categories such as breaking stock and liquid eggs remain soft, creating inconsistencies in the egg market.
